Have your say at the VU Early-Mid Career Researcher Forum!

Are you a VU staff member up to 10 years post-PhD?

Active (or aspiring to be active) in research?

What obstacles have you or are you facing? What would help overcome them?

The VU ECR group are running this forum to identify roadblocks that stop our researchers from reaching their full potential and workshop ideas that may help remove them. The outcome will then be reported back to the PVC, Research & Research Training and the Director, Office for Research. Come have your say!!

THE ECR WRITING DAYs at VU

Having trouble finishing that manuscript?  The grant is due soon? Procrastinating? These are some of the very common scenarios of an ECR’s day. But we have a solution for you!! The VU ECR committee is organising an ECR Writing Day for VU ECRs where you can set a writing goal for yourself and just write!! The goal can be an abstract for a conference, a journal article, an ethics application or a grant application. We are organising writing days across different campuses of VU on different days so you can choose the one that suits you. It’s a perfect opportunity for catching up with fellow ECRs while having a productive writing day!

Negotiating ERA and the Expectations of Research Performance

Friday 17 August, 2.00-4.00pm
Room 409, 234 Queensberry St,
Graduate School of Education, University of Melbourne

Excellence in Research Australia (ERA) audits the quality of Australian research and the second National Report is anticipated at the start of 2013. This has important implications for the professional interests of university staff, in particular those at the start of their careers. This 2-hour workshop will explore issues about the way research performance is managed, including ERA and the ERA journal rankings. The workshop will include a conversation with Dr John Lamp (Deakin University), an expert on ERA research outputs, and Dr Inger Mewburn (RMIT), the Thesis Whisperer, on strategies for navigating ERA and other academic rankings. It is also an opportunity to network with other Early Career Researchers (ECRs) and Academics (ECAs).

All researchers, teachers and academics at the start of their careers are welcome to participate.

This event is provided free by the NTEU. Afternoon tea and refreshments will be provided.
